One of the SkyWAN network values is reliability and availability. We strive to keep our transmission services available minimum 99,5% of the time. Because of it, they perfectly meet the demands applied to so called transaction systems. The term “transaction system” covers not only the accounting services, but it also includes a very wide range of information systems. It’s main characteristic is an immediate registering of the transactions made by the users, by the central database.

The SkyWAN services have been subjected to a rigorous testing in dealing with most geographically extended information systems, using the distributed client-server architecture. Also, SkyWAN may support the e-mail and workgroup systems, as well as update distribution for price-lists, catalogues and even software systems. SkyWAN can also be employed to collect information from numerous sources (eg. daily register reports) or to monitor and/or control the work of distant devices or even systems.

In order to simplify the matter, we have defined the packets addressed to the users of most numerous applications (CARGO, TRANSFER, BACKUP, POS, ATM). For those who send a lot of information we have prepared a satellite high bandwidth solution, a transmission via the satellite with the speeds up to 750 kb/s or 1.5 Mb/s. It is not a fantasy, and the cost does not have to be as high as the popular opinion would suggest.

In summary: we offer high quality services and very rapidly install and configure all the necessary hardware. In many cases using our services is less expensive than using the traditional, ground based network operators. So… it is worth to find out more! HOW DOES SKYWAN WORK?


SkyWAN is a satellite data transmission network operated by the company DataTrans. In order to realize connection according to the needs of our clients different satellite technologies are used.

Several different packets have been created in order to optimize the network capabilities to various needs of the customers. Data transmission services are realized through geo synchronously positioned TELSTAR satellite.

The total territory of Poland and most European countries are in the area ensuring good parameters for the transmission. Offset antennas used by DataTrans significantly reduce problems caused by the changes in antenna reflector’s geometry due to wet snowfall and/or icing. In addition, we offer de-icing systems. SkyWAN is a network configured in either star or a full mesh topology. The network communications Hub has been situated in the suburbs of Warsaw. The backhaul (hub connection with the company’s central system) may be also realized via satellite. SkyWAN.Transfer services enable creating broad geographical systems of client-server architecture.

VSAT terminals ensuring the transmission of up to 38 400 bytes/second are used for the services offered in the SkyWAN.Transfer packet. Access to the shares channel is done by the „two-dimensional, slot Aloha” protocol. In this protocol the dynamic scheduling of VSATs covers both: time slots and the frequency ranges. This ensures a more effective use of the shared frequency bands.
